Assessing the Within-Field Heterogeneity Using Rapid-Eye NDVI Time Series Data

(1) Background: The relation between the sub-field heterogeneity of soil properties and high-resolution satellite time series data might help to explain spatiotemporal patterns crop growth, but detailed field studies are seldom. (2) Methods: Normalized Difference Vegetation Index (NDVI) derived from images were used identify changes in spatial distribution winter triticale (×Triticosecale), rye (Secale cereale) barley (Hordeum vulgare) growth (2015 2020) for a north-eastern Germany. NDVI (quartiles) that remained persistent over identified it was tested if spatially heterogeneous characteristics such as water holding capacity altitude could them. (3) Results: A statistically significant relationship elevation classes with values found most cases. lowest quartiles, considered representing poorest conditions, generally depressions capacity. These areas showed temporally stable patterns, especially during pre-harvest period. Over six-year period, up 80% grid cells consistent time. Differences climatic balance rather low contribute explaining lower clustering wettest year.
